What is the difference between the new unifit hardwired with optional self-contained cap and its predecessor?
The new Unifit receptacle features an optional self-contained cap, specifically designed for Romex cable, eliminating the need for a back box. It installs and removes entirely from the front – no hidden steps, no extra tools required. The cap also enables daisy chaining, allowing multiple outlets to be connected in sequence for added flexibility and efficiency.
The latest version also introduces refined tamper resistance for a noticeably smoother plug-in experience, while maintaining the same high level of safety.
Prefer to install your receptacle hardwired, without a self-contained cap? A back box is required, and installation remains unchanged – though daisy chaining will not be possible within the box.
Does the self-contained outlet pass code?
Yes, all our outlets/receptacles, including the new self-contained versions, are ETL listed (by Intertek) and tested to the applicable UL and CSA standards for both the United States and Canada. Control Number: 5029983. You can find it in the Intertek Directory of Listed Products using ‘Prado America’ in the search field. The ETL mark indicates that Intertek has independently tested and certified the product to meet the same rigorous safety requirements as the corresponding UL standards, and it is recognized throughout the United States and Canada.
However, it remains the installer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the NEC and all applicable local codes. Example: In New York City, metallic electrical boxes are required. In that case, the outlet must be installed as a hardwired unit using a metallic box, metallic conduit, and a back box cover plate.
Is unifit hardwired approved for NYC?
Yes it is. In NYC, metallic boxes are mandatory. This means the self-contained cap must be removed, and the outlet must be installed as a hardwired receptacle using a metallic box, a back box cover plate (sold separately) and metallic conduit. Our hardwired version is approved by the NYC DOB — see approval document.
Do you have a GFI/GFCI outlet?
While we do not offer direct GFCI outlets/receptacles, unifit outlets can be wired to a GFCI outlet or GFCI breaker in the panel, just like a standard receptacle, to become a GFCI protected outlet.
Are the prado outlets UL or ETL listed?

What are the branch circuit requirements?
Our corded outlets come with a 5 ft cable and a NEMA 5-15 plug and can be plugged into any other outlet. For our hardwired outlets, to comply with the NEC, each outlet must have its own branch circuit, with wiring originating outside the device box without splicing or continuation to another device within the box. One junction box can have two outlets, but each outlet needs their own wiring, originating outside the box.
How can I flush-mount a unifit outlet?
To flush-mount your unifit receptacle, check our flush-mount guide and see our recommended forstner bits and rabbeting router bit. For installation in wood, start by applying painter’s tape over the area to protect the surface. Drill a 1-1/2” (Ø38 mm) countersink to a depth of 1/10″ (2.5 mm), then a 1-3/8” (Ø35 mm) hole for the outlet body, keeping both holes perfectly centered and perpendicular. Using a drill press is ideal, but a steady handheld drill works as well. Alternatively, it is possible to use the rabbeting router bit to create the flush mount countersink in wood. Always test on a scrap piece first and drill at moderate speed. Drywall only allows surface or small trim installation.
Drill a 1-3/8” hole in the plate material of choice. Flush mount countersink is optional.
Connect the outlet of choice to the appropriate wiring.
Fix the self-contained cap onto the outlet when installing without a back box.
Screw to fixate the outlet in plate thicknesses from 1/4” up to 1-3/8”.
Add the cover plate of choice. Small trim ring is optional.
